Was bedeutet es, dass indigene menschliche Überreste in europäischen Museen ausgestellt werden? Ist das überhaupt erlaubt? Sind wir uns unsere Kolonialgeschichte bewusst und verhalten uns ihr gegenüber respektvoll? Wer sind die Geschichtenerzähler*innen? Welche Perspektiven nutzen sie, um über ‘‘die Anderen‘‘ zu sprechen? Sollten die Sammlungen an ihre Herkunftsorte zurückkehren? Sind wir zur Restitution bereit? Hiermit laden wir alle, die sich diese und ähnliche Fragen stellen und besonders Menschen mit lateinamerikanischen Hintergrund, zu einer gemeinsamen Diskussion ein. Ende 2020 wird in Berlin das Humboldt Forum eröffnet, eines der teuersten und kontroversesten Kulturprojekte Europas. Im Humboldt Forum wird ein Teil der Sammlung des Ethnographischen Museums ausgestellt. Diese Sammlung verfügt über mehr als 120.000 Exponate aus Amerika, dazu zählen unter anderem viele menschliche Überreste, wie die Mallqui (Mumie) von Chuquitanta. 
Die Veranstaltung bezieht die lateinamerikanische Perspektive in die Debatte der Entkolonialisierung der europäischen Museen und Sammlungen mit ein und kontextualisiert sie zusammen mit anderen Initiativen, die sich ebenfalls kritisch positionieren. Wir laden dafür zu einer Paneldiskussion mit Protagonist*innen aus Kultur, Politik und Aktivismus ein, um Restitutionsfragen zu besprechen. Eine Einführung in die Problematik des Humboldt Forums werden die Künstler*innen von “Decolonize M21” geben. Eine Paneldiskussion moderiert von “Decolonize M21”.

AG Deconolize M21 @ Institut für Kunst im Kontext der UDK Berlin: Die AG “Decolonize M21” ist eine Gruppe junger vorwiegend lateinamerikanischer Künstler*innen des Masterstudiengangs Kunst im Kontext der Universität der Künste Berlin. Die Arbeit der AG begann 2018 innerhalb des Kooperationsprojekts der UDK Berlin und der Staatlichen Museen zu Berlin „Intervention M21: Am Humboldtstrom – Sammeln im 19. Jahrhundert“. Inzwischen geht die Arbeit der AG über das Kooperationsprojekt hinaus: Einerseits entwickeln die Künstler*innen eine kritische Intervention im Modul 21 des Humboldt Forums, andererseits organisieren sie Veranstaltungen mit unterschiedlichen Kooperationspartner*innen zu den Schwerpunkten: Gegenerzählung der Kolonialgeschichte in Lateinamerika, Restitution von Kulturgütern und Dekolonisierung von Museen.

What does it mean to exhibit indigenous human remains in European museums? Are we aware of and respectful towards our colonial history? Who are the narrators of that history? What perspectives are used in Europe to talk about "the others"? Should collections be returned to their places of origin? Are we ready for restitution? In order to discuss this ssue we invite all those who keep asking themselves above and similar questions, to an open discussion. The invitation is primarily adressed to people of Latin American origin in Berlin and Germany. The Humboldt Forum, one of the most expensive and controversial cultural projects in Europe, will open in Berlin by the end of 2020. There, only a small part of the collection of the Ethnological Museum Berlin will be exhibited, which counts more than 120,000 pieces from Americas, including human remains, among them the Mallqui (mummy) of Chuquitanta. The goal of this event is to make account of Latin American perspective related to the debate on the decolonization of European museums and collections, to contextualize this perspective along other initiatives and to take critical as well as constructive position. We cordially invite the protagonists of culture, politics and activism to the panel discussion Devuelve, pé! (Give It back!) to address the issues evoving around restitution of Latin American cultural heritage. The artists of "Decolonize M21" will give an introduction to the issues related to the Humboldt Forum. The group was formed in 2018 within the framework of the cooperation project between the UdK and the State Museums of Berlin (Staatliche Museen zu Berlin) entiteled "Intervention M21: The Humboldt Current - Collections in the 19th Century". Throughout the process, interests and work of the group have expanded beyond that cooperation. ¿Qué significa exhibir restos humanos indígenas en museos europeos? ¿Está permitido? ¿Somos conscientes y respetuosxs respecto a nuestra historia colonial? ¿Quiénes son lxs narradores de esa historia? ¿Qué perspectivas son utilizadas en Europa para hablar de "los otros"? ¿Deberían las colecciones regresar a sus lugares de origen? ¿Estamos listxs para la restitución? Para debatir acerca de este actual y coyuntural tema invitamos a todxs aquellxs que se están haciendo estas preguntas y otras similares, especialmente a las personas de origen latinoamericano, a una discusión en común. El Humboldt Forum, uno de los proyectos culturales más caros y controversiales de Europa, se inaugurará en Berlín a finales de 2020. Ahí se exhibirá una parte de la colección del Museo Etnográfico de Berlín, la cual tiene más de 120.000 piezas de América, incluyendo muchos restos humanos, entre ellos la Mallqui (momia) de Chuquitanta. El presente evento inserta la perspectiva latinoamericana en el debate sobre la descolonización de los museos y colecciones europeas y la contextualiza junto a otras iniciativas que adoptan a su vez una postura crítica.Invitamos cordialmente a lxs protagonistas de la cultura, la política y el activismo a un panel de discusión para tratar el tema de restitución de patrimonio cultural latinoamericano. Lxs artistas de "Decolonize M21" darán una introducción a la problemática del Humboldt Forum. Discusión moderado por el grupo “Decolonize M21”. El grupo de trabajo "Decolonize M21" es un grupo de principalmente artistas latinoamericanxs del programa de maestría Arte en Contexto de la Universidad de las Artes de Berlín (UdK). El trabajo del grupo comenzó en 2018 en el marco del proyecto de cooperación "Intervención M21: La corriente de Humboldt - Colecciones en el siglo XIX", entre la UdK y los Museos Nacionales de Berlín. A lo largo del proceso el proyecto se ha extendido más allá de la cooperación entre instituciones. Por un lado, lxs artistas están desarrollando una intervención crítica en el Módulo 21 del Humboldt Forum; por otro lado, están organizando eventos con diferentes grupos de personas interesadas y activistas al rededor de los temas: contranarración de la historia colonial en América Latina, restitución de bienes culturales y descolonización de los museos.
