Marjetica Potrč, an artist and architect based in Ljubljana and Berlin, a professor at the HFBK Hamburg, will be discussing her interdisciplinary space-production and community building related practice she has been pursuing over the last 20 years. Potrč will give a special insight into collaborative, site specific and participatory projects developed within her social design academic course "Design for the Living World" at the Hamburg Art Academy. In her class students have been working in the tradition of learning by doing together with local residents on design challenges in different parts of the world since 2011.
Marjetica Potrč has been exhibited extensively including Venice Biennial (1993, 2003, 2009), São Paulo Biennial (1996, 2006), Skulptur Projekte in Münster (1997). Her solo exhibitions include Guggenheim Museum New York (2001), De Appel Foundation Amsterdam (2004), Portikus Gallery Frankfurt am Main (2006), The Curve at the Barbican Art Galleries London (2007) among others. Her on-site projects include Dry Toilet (Caracas, 2003), Power from Nature (Barefoot College, India, and Catherine Ferguson Academy, Detroit, 2005), The Cook, the Farmer, His Wife and Their Neighbour (Stedelijk goes West, Amsterdam, 2009), Between the Waters: The Emscher Community Garden (Emscherkunst.2010, Essen, 2010), Théâtre Evolutif (Evento 2011, Bordeaux, 2011), and Of Soil and Water: King's Cross Pond Club (Relay Art Program, King's Cross, London, 2015). Awards and fellowships include Pollock-Krasner Foundation (1993, 1999), Hugo Boss Prize (2000), Vera List Center for Arts and Politics at The New School New York (2007), among others.

Partizipatorische Modelle haben sich in den letzten Jahren in die Gesellschaftsstrukturen gut integriert. Genauso ist es mit partizipatorischen künstlerischen Formaten. Trotzdem sind viele skeptisch und würden ungern zugeben, dass die Demokratisierung der Gesellschaft bzw. der Kunst womöglich zugenommen hat. Wieso ist dem so? Ergänzend zur Arbeit im Seminar "Neue Begriffe der Demokratie in der Kunst nach 9/11", die sich einer Erforschung der demokratisch-partizipatorischen Entwicklungen von 2001 bis heute widmet, soll diese Reihe universitätsoffener artist talks weitere Einblicke zum Diskurskomplex Demokratisierung der Kunst ermöglichen.
